Janice Peters

PEORIA — Janice L. Peters, 71, of Peoria passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Liberty Village Nursing Home in Princeton surrounded by her family.

Jan was born on July 20, 1937, the daughter of Floyd and Edna (Shipp) Reynolds in Tiskilwa. She was one of six children.

She is survived by her son, Dean (Kathy) Peters of Sparland; her daughter, Tamara Peters Sears of Peoria; two sisters, Betty Jean Reynolds Kennedy of Princeton, N.J., and Bonnie Reynolds Webster of Princeton; one brother, Gary Reynolds of Tiskilwa; four grandchildren, Megan (Tyler) Scarlata of Washington, Ill., and Mathew Perry Peters, Holly Beth Sears and Joey (Melissa) Sears, all of Peoria; two great-grandchildren, Makenna Elise Sears and Kaden Allan Sears of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.

Jan was passionate about her animals and birds. She spent much of her time caring for and loving her cats, Kitty Round Head and Mr. Rivkin.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ann Shipp; and one brother, Floyd (Pete) Reynolds.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Liberty Village Nursing Home in Princeton and VITAS Hospice Care for the extraordinary care and compassion they showed Jan and her family during a very difficult time. We are forever grateful to all of you.

Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at the chapel in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton. The Rev. Arlene Johnson of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church will officiate a prayer service at 6 p.m. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private burial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run in Peoria or The Ark Animal Shelter in Lacon.
