HCE meeting

PRINCETON — The Northwest Princeton unit of HCE will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Barb Ollila, 935 S. Church, Princeton. Assistant hostess will be Gloria Hansen. Members should note the change of meeting location.

Quilters meeting

PRINCETON — The Covered Bridge Quilters Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, 1719 S. Euclid Ave., Princeton. Guests are welcome to attend for a fee of $5. The feature program, “Scrap Busters,” will be by Jan Kruger and Linda Marcou. No workshops are scheduled for June, July and August. The next workshop, “I Be Quilting Bag,” will be presented by Robyn Welsh from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Building in Princeton.

Meeting set

PERU — PADS, the local homeless shelter, will have its monthly board of directors meeting Monday at the Peru PADS shelter, 1320 Menard Drive in Peru. Anyone interested in serving on the board of directors for Illinois Valley PADS and has experience in not-for-profit organizations should consider attending the meeting. The public is invited. Reading program

WYANET — The Raymond A. Sapp Memorial Library in Wyanet will have its summer reading program, “Read on the Wild Side,” during June. Children of all ages, with a current library card from any Illinois library, can sign up June 1-6 at the library’s circulation desk and get a schedule of events. Programs will be from 2 to 3 p.m. each Monday, but of course, the reading takes place all summer long. More details about the event, including times and events, will be released.

Democrats’ meeting

DEPUE — The DePue/Bureau County Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the VFW Hall in DePue. Discussion will be on the upcoming boat races in July and a fundraiser at that time. The 2009-10 membership drive that begins Aug. 1 will also be discussed. New members are welcome. Refreshments will follow the meeting.

SPRING VALLEY — John F. Power Knights of Columbus Council 3931 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Council chambers at 307 W. St. Paul St. in Spring Valley. Grand Knight Richard Pommier urges all members to attend as a number of important items are on the agenda. Among them are plans for two major summer fundraisers and the election of officers. Breakfast set

PRINCETON — A breakfast for Perry Memorial Hospital retired and former employees will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in the White Oak Classroom at the hospital.

Baby-sitting course

PRINCETON — An American Red Cross baby-sitting course will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 8 at the Bureau County Metro Center in Princeton. The course is for ages 11 to 15 years and is $40 per person. A certificate will be awarded.

DAR meeting

PRINCETON — The Princeton Illinois-Illinois chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 1 p.m. June 13 at the Prouty Building in Princeton. Brent Beggs of Findlay, Ohio, will present a piano prelude. Andrea Anderson, director of the Zearing Child Enrichment Center, will give the program. Hostesses are Judy Schwiderski, chairman, Karen Schwiderski, Sharon Murphy and Jean Watkins.
