Spring Valley City Council 6-8
SPRING VALLEY — The Spring Valley City Council took action on the following items during its meeting June 8:
• Discussed the renewal of the contract with Comcast. Alderman Walt Marini said the council had asked company representative Joan Sage about the differences between the current and proposed contracts, but the city had not yet received the information.
• Discussed the work planned for Lena Alfano’s downtown beer garden. Mayor Cliff Banks said work should begin soon on the project, which will include having the existing space cleaned and a wrought iron fence and brick pillars installed. Banks had arranged for various groups to donate the labor, and in exchange, special groups and organizations will be able to profit from various activities at the site.
• Received the May police report from Police Chief Kevin Sangston. There were 42 arrest citations, 90 verbal warnings, 113 vehicle stops, 13 adults arrested, one juvenile arrested or detained, and 21 accidents investigated with 12 people injured, two pedestrians involved and one car vs. deer accident.
• Heard from Sangston about an emergency repair to a squad car’s transmission that will cost $2,000. Sangston said in the long term, the city will need a new squad car, as no new vehicles were purchased in more than two and one-half years. The council agreed to discuss the issue at the next finance committee meeting.
