LAMOILLE — This spring, LaMoille’s Alyssa Hopps earned a ninth-place state medal in the shot put and was a dual TRAC-8 conference champion, winning both the shot put and discus events for the Amboy-LaMoille Lady Clippers track co-op. Beginning this fall, Hopps will extend her career into the collegiate ranks for the Lady Lynx of Lincoln College.

“I’m very excited. I just wasn’t ready to quit track,” Hopps said.

Hopps said she knew immediately that Lincoln, a two-year residential college, was the right fit for her.

“Right when I visited it, I really liked Lincoln,” Hopps said.

Along with the campus, Hopps said she liked what she heard from Lincoln coach Brian Herron, whom she described as “awesome.”

“He said my attitude’s good and that I just have to weight lift and workout more, and I should be good.”

Along with competing in the shot put and discus, events that she has grown quite familiar with, Hopps will also be testing out some new events at Lincoln for coach Herron.

“He wants me to try out the hammer and javelin. I don’t know how good I’ll be at those two.” said Hopps, adding that she is excited yet nervous to see how she fares in the new throws.

Hopps said she is undecided as to what she will major in at Lincoln but will look to receive an associates of arts degree. She hopes to one day work with children.
