Gallaghers note 50th wedding anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gallagher

Dr. and Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Gallagher celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 12 with family, friends and several residents at Heartland Health Care Center in Henry. They were married June 13, 1959, in South Bend, Ind.

The couple’s son, Jim Gallagher, and his wife, Tracy, planned a reception in their honor at Heartland Health Care Center where Donald currently resides. Nancy surprised her husband by serenading him with “The Hawaiian Wedding Song.” This song is very special to Donald since his mother was the first to perform the piece in San Francisco in 1927. The couple attended Mass at Heartland on Friday as normal. Nancy sang the song to him with all of their friends from Mass looking on.

The couple are the parents of four children, the late Peg (Mark) Hague, Patty (Lenny) Lapkin, Tim (Lisa) Gallagher and Jim (Tracy) Gallagher. They also have 11 grandchildren, Danny, Joe, Aaron, Sam, Jacob, Lindsey, Steven, Mickey, MacKenzie, Will and Grace.

Donald was affiliated with St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. He worked in Spring Valley and had his own office in Granville. He grew up in Hawaii and the couple lived and vacationed in Hawaii. Since Hawaii is a special place for them, they wore colorful flowered shirts and leis were passed out to all who attended the reception.
