Mr. and Mrs. John Nordstrom of Murphysboro will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today with a dinner in Murphysboro, hosted by the Christ Community Church.

John Gary Nordstrom and the former Phyllis Bird were married June 17, 1959, at the United Pentecostal Church in Princeton. They lived in Princeton until 1967 when they moved to Minnesota to study to become a minister.

John is the director of pastoral care at Christ Community Church. Phyllis is the office administrator at the Christ Community Church. John and Phyllis both taught in the public schools in and around Princeton until 1967. In 1970 they planted a church in Ottawa that is pastored today by the their oldest son, John Jr.

They are the parents of three sons, John Jr. (Glenda) Nordstrom of Ottawa, Paul (Tanya) Nordstrom of Alexandria, La., and Dr. Philip C. (Melanie) Nordstrom of Murphysboro, and one daughter, Pamela (Dewayne) Cronkright of Ottawa. They also have 13 grandchildren. Phyllis’ father, Robert Bird Sr., still lives in Princeton.
