Auditions set for Homestead musical

PRINCETON — Auditions are being announced for this year’s Homestead Festival musical to be presented on the stage at Princeton High School, Sept. 12 and Sept. 13.

“Back to the ‘80’s,” written by Neil Gooding and provided by Music Theatre International, is the show selected by the 2009 Homestead Committee. It promises to be a journey back in time for both the cast and the audience, as the Class of 1980 looks back to their high school days at William Ocean High School. Fast paced with music and dance, the former students relive the loves, successes and losses they experienced during their high school days. This show requires a large cast.

All the music for the show comes from the ‘80s era. Some of the songs being featured are “Mickey,” “We are the World,” “Nine to Five,” “Eye of the Tiger,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” and “The Time of My Life.” Combine this music with bubble skirts and blue eye shadow, and it promises to be a fun event for those in the cast and for the audience.

Tryouts will be Tuesday, and Wednesday, at 6:45 p.m. in the Hampshire Colony Church Basement. Those auditioning will be asked to read and sing from script and music that will be provided. If anyone is interested in auditioning and can not possibly make these dates because of conflicts in schedules, they are asked to call Director Doris Hamilton at (815) 646-4438 and make arrangements for an audition time.
