City Engineer Jack Kusek said the clippings are causing problems in the machinery in the water treatment department as well as causing clogged drains and flooding. • Heard Police Chief Kevin Sangston is working to get some downtown businesses to clean up their properties. Mayor Cliff Banks said officers will soon begin issuing tickets. • Heard Banks toured much of Illinois in an attempt to attract businesses to Spring Valley. • Heard from Sangston that the police department received a grant for a digital camera. Sangston also said he applied for a grant for new portable radios. • Discussed a 100 percent grant available for a new fire department building. • Heard the street program will be going out for bids. Kusek said the program, which will include Lance Street, Kirby Park Road, the intersection of Power and Minnesota streets, Strong Street, Fifth Street and Old North Road, is estimated to cost $130,000. Of the total, $9,977 is for engineering fees. • Heard from economic development director Debb Ladgenski about a program with AmerenIP that could save the city $25,000. • Approved the sale of three old city dump trucks and two old pickups that are no longer in service. Street Superintendent John Schultz asked that the proceeds be put back into the equipment depreciation account. |
