Advantage Cubs

By Tom Musick - Shaw News Service

CHICAGO – The Cubs and White Sox seem to be moving in opposite directions this week despite sporting nearly identical sub-.500 records to start the season.

The clubs met Friday to kick off a three-game series at U.S. Cellular Field after splitting a rain-shortened series last week at Wrigley Field. After 11 years and 68 games, each team had won 34 and lost 34, with only three runs separating the pair.

The Cubs took an edge with a 5-4 win Friday.

“If I want to take my kids to the ballpark, that’s the game I want to take them [to],” Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Thursday. “I’d say, ‘This is real baseball, kid.’ As a fan, you’re going to enjoy it the same way the players enjoy it.”

Injured sluggers swing: White Sox slugger Carlos Quentin and Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez each took batting practice before Friday’s game, although neither is expected to return for a while.

• A make-up game for the rained out game at Wrigley Field is expected to be played in early September.
