BV duo takes ride
on Cyclones’ NAYS
national qualifier

A local 14U freshman boys’ basketball team won the Oswego Midwest Regional Qualifier over the weekend, giving them a berth to the national tournament.

The Sauk Valley/Illinois Valley Cyclones is a basketball team made up of freshman boys from Amboy, Bureau Valley and Mendota high schools.

The team is a National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) traveling basketball team playing tournaments in Madison, Wis., Crystal Lake, Aurora, Joliet, Hoffman Estates and Elmhurst.

The Cyclones experience gained during the season playing teams older and more experienced, served them well at Oswego because they played the tournament against teams of their own age bracket.

Team members include Josh Whiteside and Frankie Gebeck of Bureau Valley, Drew Fordham and Tyson Powers of Amboy and Drake O’Connell, Evan Carroll, Ryan Dornink, John Gehm and Austin O’Sadnick of Mendota.

The start of National NAYS tournament will be held in Bolingbrook from July 29 to Aug. 2.
