Jimmy D outing to tee off July 12
For 26 years, golfers have teed up for the Jimmy D Golf Outing, raising funds for cancer research in the memory of the late Jimmy DeAngelo.
This year’s event, the 27th annual Jimmy D Golf Day will be July 12 at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley and Deer Park Country Club in Oglesby. Sponsors and golfers are being sought.
Proceeds will benefit the future DeAngelo mammography suite at St. Margaret’s Hospital. The event raised $27,000 for area patients and more than $550,000 since its inception. This year’s goal is $30,000.

Tiger Classic: This year’s Princeton High School Booster Club Tiger Classic has been moved up to July 25 at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course. Registration starts at 11 a.m. with a noon shotgun start.

Hole in one: Zach Stewart of Ottawa recorded a hole-in-one on the 132-yard No. 7 hole at Spring Creek Golf Course on June 22, using a pitching wedge. It was witnessed by Jake Redlich.
IV Women’s Open: This year’s Illinois Valley Women’s Golf Open will be held Aug. 9 at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course in Princeton. Any high school or college girl in the Illinois valley area may participate. College students with a home address in the area are also eligible.
The entry fee is $65, which includes green fees for the tournament, cart, gifts, awards and dinner following the tournament. A practice round is available to all golfers for $15 (for cart) from Aug. 6-8.
Spectators and or spouses are welcome to attend the dinner and awards ceremony following the tournament.
Trophies and awards will include a gross team traveling trophy, a net team traveling trophy and awards for individual flight winners. Also, an award will be given to seniors (age 62-69) and super seniors (age 70+).

Bureau County United Way Golf Scramble: The sixth annual United Way scramble will be held Sept. 19 at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course in Princeton. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $60 per golfer, including 18 holes, cart, dinner and prizes.

Wyaton roundup: The Torri-Cumpton team head up the Monday 2-Man League at Wyaton Hills with 32 points. Shemwell-Lucas are second at 30 1/2. Rob Watson scored low gross of 39, edging Jason Fox (40) and K.T. Townes (41). The Reick-Neff team had low net 31. Next week’s play starts up the second half of the season.
Barbara Brumbaugh (33), Millie Dean (34), Carolyn Barkley (35), Beth Bickerman (35) and Dorothy Oaks (35) were the leading ladies in Tuesday’s Tee to Green Play Day.
Spring Creek roundup: Play of the Day winners for low gross in the Spring Creek Ladies League from June 24 were Alicia Yuvan (A), Connie Banks (B) and Connie Eick (C). Banks and Eick also swept regular play in their classes.
Upcoming junior golf dates at Spring Creek include the COUNTRY Insurance and Financial Junior Tournament on July 27, the Spring Creek Junior Member Tournament on July 31, and the Illinois Valley Junior Golf Championship on Aug. 3.
