Ladd Village Board

LADD — The Ladd Village Board conducted the following business at its meeting June 9:

• Approved St. Bede Academy’s request to use the Senior League baseball diamond from March 1 to May 15 next year.

• Agreed not to charge the Ladd CIA for electric usage during its weekly Farmer’s Market in the Main Street Park.

• Heard a request from Gene Johnson of AC Pavement Striping for reconsideration before re-awarding the 2009 Street Program to the next lower bidder. Initially, his company was awarded the bid but the state was dissatisfied with the affidavit of availability and financial numbers. The village engineer informed the board of the options given by IDOT regarding the program, which were to either allow them to resubmit their paperwork or to re-award the project to the second lowest bidder. The board agreed to award the project to Pavement Maintenance for $20,336.40.

• Received the police department’s activity report for May. The board discussed an ordinance that would hold landlords accountable for repeated police calls to their rental properties, but no action was taken.

• Heard of a recent accident involving a village resident who slipped and fell due to a landlord discharging his sump pump onto the village sidewalk.

• Discussed options for Meadow Lane regarding the Cleveland Street Storm Sewer project. The board agreed to replace the 3 1/2-foot diameter culvert with two 4-foot diameter culverts with concrete headwalls at an additional cost of $35,000 subject to the superintendent’s satisfaction.

• Heard of a recent rate increase request from AmerenIP. Their new rate would increase to 12 cents per kWh, which is substantially higher than the rate that the village charges its electric customers.

• Re-adopted an ordinance authorizing the issuance of up to $900,000 of sewerage revenue bonds.

• Discussed a handicapped accessible entrance at Lanuti’s Restaurant.

• Approved the Finance Committee’s recommendation for wages and benefits for village employees.

• Adopted the Prevailing Wage ordinance.

• Considered a request to have a management’s discussion and analysis report prepared to assist with the cost of service and electric rate study.

• Discussed the purchase of a digger/derrick truck with no action taken.
