Ohio High School
OHIO — The Ohio High School Board took action on the following items at its meeting June 22:
• Adopted a Prevailing Wage Resolution.
• Approved High School Fees as presented.
• Approved Title Grants for submission to the State Board.
• Closed out the activity account of Class of 2009, donating the remainder of the money to the Outdoor Education Activity Account. The class also purchased a brick for the Ohio Veterans Memorial.
• Changed the July board meeting date from July 27 to July 20 due to administrative conflict.
• Heard 13 students are enrolled in drivers education, including two students who have tuitioned from LaMoille.
• Discussed the feasibility study proposed by the superintendent of the Amboy School District. Superintendent Sharon Flesher said the study is completely funded by the state, would be of no cost to the district, and is fact finding only with no commitment. Flesher said Amboy's superintendent would like the board to vote in July whether the district will participate.
• Heard the district has two students hired by the BEST Students program for summer janitorial work. This service is no cost to the district.
• Heard there will be a group from Jungle Jump-Off who have volunteered to assist with projects around the school on July 21. Once again this is of no cost to the district.
• Heard Kaylene Becker, who was the Bureau County Elks Teen of the Year Runner Up, had application resubmitted to the Elks West District division, where she competed against students from Peoria, Macomb, Canton, Bloomington, Oglesby, Galesburg, Kewanee and Princeton. Principal Mark Downey said Kaylene and her family were notified she had won this division and her application would be resubmitted for regionals.
• Employed, retroactively, Jill Thompson at $10 an hour to paint for the summer.
• Employed Ashley Larabee for English and extracurricular activities positions as needed.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 20.
