LEXINGTON, Ky. — Wayne Nickells, 72, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in Lexington, Ky.

A longtime trainer/driver, he was born in Princeton. He was a 1956 graduate of Princeton High School and lettered in football, basketball and track. He entered the U.S. Army in 1959 and after his discharge in 1962, he began his career in harness racing as an owner/trainer.
