Malden School Board 6-18

MALDEN — The Malden School Board took action on the following items at its meeting June 18:

• Heard the REAP grant was approved, and Malden should receive $21,833.

• Heard the reimbursement rate for Medicaid health-related services in schools might increase from 50 to 60 percent because of the stimulus package.

• Heard sex offender notification lists, excluding minors, will be available at registration if parents want any information.

• Heard Dr. Faber will be at Malden at 10 a.m. Aug. 5 to do sports physicals for fifth-, seventh- and eighth-graders.

• Heard registration will be held on Aug. 5-6.

• Commended the students who achieved high honor and honor roll grades for the fourth nine weeks and for the year’s total grade point average. The board also commended the junior high students who were awarded citizenship certificates for the year; the students who achieved perfect attendance; and the members of the 2009 eighth-grade graduation class.

• Thanked the Malden Booster Club for all its volunteer work, fundraising and contributions; Zepha Gerber for organizing graduation and Adie Essl and Brenda Dye for their assistance; and the members of the Dover-Berlin 4-H Club for painting the bleachers by the ball diamond.

• Tabled discussion on additions and changes for the student handbook.

• Approved First State Bank of Van Orin/Malden Banking Center, Amcore Bank, Central Bank Illinois, Citizens Bank and Union Bank as possible bank depositories for the 2009-10 school year.

• Approved retaining school board meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month except for the September meeting, which will be on the fourth Thursday.

• Approved book rental at $50, lunch cost at $2.75, and milk at 30 cents per carton or $53 for the school year.

• Approved continuation of Student Insurance Coverage with WICSIT.

• Approved the prevailing wage resolution.

• Approved graduate hour reimbursement for Amy Nichols.

• Tabled any decision on superintendent/principal salary.

• Approved hiring Courtney Anderson as full-time Stepping Stones preschool aide; Carol Basel as LD teacher; and Linda McClenning as full-time one-on-one life skills aide.
