The tournament was postponed for the second straight night due to rain. Wednesday’s games have been moved to Thursday and the rest of the tournament pushed back another day. On Thursday, Bi-County will play Spring Valley at 6 p.m. and Princeton will play Ottawa at 7:30 p.m. The championship, originally scheduled for Friday, will now be played on Sunday. Little League Baseball: Bi-County met the host in the first game of the 11- and 12-year-old tournament Monday, but it was Bi-County that looked more like the home team at Zearing Park. Bi-County, a Marshall and Putnam counties co-op, scored four runs in the sixth inning and posted a 12-0 win over Princeton. Jacob Reinhardt had three hits for Princeton, including a double. Drew Pranka and Taylor Kuhne each added a hit. Starting pitcher Garrett Duffin took the loss for Princeton, tagged for a first-inning homer by B-C’s Austin Biagini. Peru used two homers to defeat Ottawa American 9-1 Monday to move on in the winner’s bracket. Junior League Baseball: Bi-County outscored Spring Valley by two touchdowns in a 21-7 win in the opener of the 13- and 14-year-old tournament in Spring Valley. Senior League Baseball: Peru beat Mendota 9-0, while Streator out-slugged LaSalle 25-11. Little League Softball: Spring Valley eliminated Mendota 7-1 in the 11- and 12- year-old girls tournament at Veteran’s Park in Peru Tuesday. Winning pitcher Brenna Faletti pitched the first and last innings with relief help from Adriana Pikula and Railey Mauck. Faletti went 2-for-3 and Mauck, Abby Azarskis, Samantha Osborn and Kylie Whightsil each added one hit. Mendota knocked out Princeton 13-5 Monday, taking an 8-2 lead in the fourth and scoring five more times in the fifth to go up 13-5. Madison Menzel took the loss, surrendering 13 runs in five innings with eight strikeouts and eight walks. Junior League Softball: Mendota edged Spring Valley 4-2 in Monday’s opener of the 13- and 14-year-old girls tournament at Memorial Park in Oglesby. Mendota came back to top Princeton 7-0 Tuesday. Both Spring Valley (5:45 p.m.) and Princeton (7:30 p.m.) are scheduled to return to action Thursday facing elimination. |
