Bureau Valley schools registration set for July 28-30

MANLIUS — Bureau Valley Unit Schools will hold district-wide registration at the high school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28 and from noon to 7 p.m. on July 29 and July 30.

All Bureau Valley students are to register at the high school, including all special needs students who are residents in the Bureau Valley District but attend classes in another district.

Parents or guardians are requested to not bring their elementary or preschool children to the registration, if at all possible. All high school students are encouraged to attend in order to verify the accuracy of their schedules.

All students entering kindergarten, sixth or ninth grade are required to have complete physical examinations and evidence of having had proper immunizations. Students entering Bureau Valley District form another district for the first time are required to present compete physical exam forms, immunization records and a certified birth certificate. Hospital certificates cannot be accepted.

The Bureau County Department of Public Health will have a nurse present from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the July 28 registration day to provide immunizations needed by any student. The cost of each immunization is $10. The cost is covered by medical card/public aid for anyone who is unable to pay the cost due to hardship. No one will be denied service.

A state mandate requires all students entering kindergarten, second and sixth grades to have completed dental examinations.

The Bureau County Dental Clinic will hold a dental sealant clinic from noon to 7 p.m. July 29 and Aug. 19 at the clinic located at 526 Bureau Valley Parkway in Princeton. Walk-ins are accepted until 5:30 p.m., but you are asked to call for an appointment at (815) 872-1927. The program includes school exams, cleaning and sealant, and is provided for children who qualify for free and reduced lunches, children with public aid, KidCare or All Kids, or children not covered by private dental insurance. All students registering will need to present a social security number and 9-1-1 address, if applicable. The 2009-10 student handbooks and district policy on the administration of medicine will be distributed. The random drug testing policy for all students in grades nine-12 who will be participating in extra-curricular activity will also be distributed.

The Bureau Valley District participates in the statewide direct certification process for free and reduced meals. Parents who have not received information from the state or wish to apply for free or reduced lunches for their children will be provided application forms at the time of registration.

Admission to kindergarten is based on chronological age. To be eligible, a child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2009. Students must present a certified birth certificate before they can attend school. Parents may desire to postpone the entrance of a child who meets the age qualification. District personnel will be available to counsel parents in making the decision.

Registration forms for the Bureau Valley North and Wyanet pre-kindergarten programs have been sent separately to families by mail. Families are to fill out the form and gather necessary paperwork, including a physical, immunization record, lead screening and copy of a certified birth certificate, and return the packet at registration time.

An orientation session for all incoming freshmen and new transfer students will be held at the high school from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 11. During the session, students will be activated in Edline so they will be able to receive school news and grade reports via the Internet.

The following registration fees have been established: Bureau Valley High School — Book rental-fee is waived for 2009-10; driver education, $50, and does not include permit fee; P.E. fees, $17 and include $12 uniform and $5 padlock; Writers Inc., $18.50; parking lot permit, $10; athletic fee, $30 per sport, $50 maximum; student activity pass, (optional) $35; student insurance, $42 for school time, $105 for 24-hour coverage; football insurance $147.

School insurance or a signed waiver is required of all sixth- through 12th-grade students participating in any extra-curricular activity.

Adult athletic season passes are $65 for home high school games, and $75 for junior high and high school home games. Season passes exclude tournaments. High school conferences admission prices are $4 for adults and $3 for students.

Lunch prices for grades nine-12 are $2 for a full-price lunch and 40 cents for reduced lunch. Ala carte breakfast is 35 cents for juice and 50 cents for a roll. Adult lunches are $2.50

Breakfast prices are $1 for full-priced and 30 cents for reduced price breakfasts.

Kindergarten through eighth-grade fees — book rental, kindergarten- through eighth-grade fees are waived; P.E. fees for grades six through eight are $17, includes $12 for uniform and $5 for padlock, shirt only is $4.25 and shorts only are $7.75; athletic fee for grades 7 and 8 is $15 per person participating; milk contract fee, price will be available at time of registration; student insurance, $21 for school time and $105 for optional 24-hour coverage for pre-k- through 12-grade students. School time insurance or a signed insurance waiver is required for all sixth- through 12-grade students participating in an extra-curricular activity.

Lunch prices for grades six through eight are $1.75 full price, and for grades kindergarten through fifth, $1.50. Reduced prices are 40 cents, and 35 cents for an extra milk carton. Breakfast is $1 for full-priced and 30 cents for reduced.

The first day of student attendance will be from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 18. From Aug. 19 through Labor Day, classes will begin at 8 a.m. and students will be dismissed early at 2 p.m.

The first day for pre-k students is Aug. 19.
