Darrel Lauritzen

HENRY — Darrel L. Lauritzen, 62, of Henry died at 9:02 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Darrel was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Princeton to LaVerne “Bud” and Eileen (Brandenburg) Lauritzen. He married Linda Baumgartner on Nov. 7, 1970, in Dixon. She survives in Henry.

Also surviving is one daughter, Amber (Darb) Calvert of Williamsville, Ill.; one son, Brian Lauritzen of Las Vegas, Nev.; three brothers, Howard (Nancy) Laurin of Reseda, Calif., his twin brother David (Susan) Lauritzen of Wyanet, and Mark Lauritzen of Sterling; two sisters, Jean Connors of Bluffton, S.C., and Mary (Gary) Lou of Davenport, Fla.; and two dearly loved grandchildren, Caileen and Coldin Calvert. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Joann Lauritzen.

Darrel was a graduate of Walnut High School, Class of 1964. He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era from 1965 to 1969. He was a member of the Henry American Legion and VFW. He had also served on the Henry Grade School board of education for many years.

Darrel worked for Heinold Hog Market in Henry for 25 years and for the past 15 years he was a C&CE salesman for Kelly Sauder Rupiper Equipment in Lacon.

Darrel was known for his great love of sports. He especially enjoyed playing golf. During his children’s youth, he was a coach and an umpire for high school and summer little league baseball and softball.

The biggest love of his life was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Presbyterian Church of Henry with the Rev. David Beals officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Law Cemetery in Princeton. The Henry American Legion will provide military rites.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Darrel L. Lauritzen Memorial Fund.

The Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
