OGLESBY — The Illinois Valley Community College men’s basketball team began a month-long summer conditioning program last week. Coach Tommy Canale said he is eager to see what the season has in store for the team.

“I am excited about this season,” says Canale. “I am always excited to see how the team develops. Summer conditioning gives the guys a chance to get to know each other and understand how each one plays off the other.”

Summer conditioning focuses on speed, agility and quickness, core strength, overall basketball-specific skills and conditioning, specifically cardiovascular exercises.

“As of right now, we have a lot of talent returning from last year,” says Canale. “It will be interesting to see how those players adjust to the new guys and how everything pans out.”

Among the sophomores expected to return are Mike Gills and Roosevelt Jones of Peoria, Korby Kasperski of Spring Valley, Jake Strabala of Streator, Tanner Bland of Marquette, Tylon McAllister of Bloomington and Matt Sturdivant and red-shirt freshman Keon Jones, both of Joliet.

Joining the Eagles; returning core of players will be area standouts Matt and Jesse Monroe of LaMoille and Noel Santiago of Hall.

Practice officially begins in October.
