Tee times set for IV Women’s Golf Open

Tee teams have been set for Sunday’s Illinois Valley Women’s Golf Open at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course in Princeton.
The first group, including Alizabeth Fiorini of Indian Hills, tees up at 8:48 a.m. Two-time defending champ Carrie Riordan of Spring Valley heads up the championship flight at 11:48 a.m. She will be joined by first-timer Gwen Holmes of Princeton, a state qualifier for PHS last fall who is heading to play at Millikin University in Decatur and Jackie Leonard of Streator, who will be a sophomore swinger for the Illinois State University Redbirds.
There are 54 ladies signed up to play from nine different courses — Hunter’s Ridge, Lacon, Indian Hills, Wyaton Hills, Spring Creek, Oak Ridge, Hidden Lake, Green River and Deer Park.
Practice rounds may be played Tuesday or Wednesday at Hunter’s Ridge.
• Junior Horseshoes: Austin Peach, Crystal Gee and Elaina Bickett all had 2-1 records in the July 27 Bureau County Junior Horseshoes League play. Gee also scored the high game of 100 and most ringers (10) and high ringer game (4) taken by Peach.
Next pitching date is Aug. 10 at the fairgrounds.
• Rolle bolle: Another nice summer night welcomed 35 bolders on July 29 in downtown Manlius. Winning this night were Nancy Clementz, Carl Gustafson and Larry Anderson. Second was won by Roger DeBrock, Kent Carpenter and Brad Nielson, third claimed by Ann Chapman, Micam Smith and Dennis “Skunk” Kepner, fourth to Wilma Anderson, Hayden Nielson and Rick Taylor and coming in fifth place were Rita Frank, “Hoot Owl” Kepner and Riley DeBrock.
With only four Wednesday night games left, trophies will be awarded to the top three women, men and Jr. bolders on Aug. 26.
• Summer hoops: Team Jason Marquis got a buzzer-beater to hand Team Dave Davis its first loss of the summer 4-on-4 basketball season at the Metro Center, 64-62. Preston Jones and Adam Franklin led the winners with 15 and 12 points. Shane Ballard had 20 points for the Davis squad.
Team Davis remains atop the league at 7-1 with Team Marquis in second at 6-2.
In other games, Team Alex Franklin defeated Team Trevor Rowley 53-48 and Team David Anderson beat Team Brandon Nyman 60-50.
• The adult portion of the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival Tennis Tournament will be held Aug, 8 for doubles and Aug. 9 for singles. Entry forms may be picked up at the Mendota Chamber of Commerce, Goslin Drug and Sports-N-Stuff in Mendota.
