One killed in Henry County crash

KEWANEE — On July 30, at about 6:48 p.m., the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of West South Street and Burlington Avenue in Kewanee.

Drew T. M. Richardson, 17, of Kewanee was driving a vehicle that struck a vehicle driven by Steven L. Osborne, 47, of Kewanee. Richardson was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Randall L. Betz, 20, was transported to Kewanee Hospital and then airlifted to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Scott M. Mlelkush, 23, of Kewanee sustained fatal injuries in the accident. The occupants in the Osborne vehicle were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Kewanee Police Department, Kewanee Fire and Ambulance, Life Flight Air Ambulance and the Henry County Coroner.
