Marianne Ackerman of Greenfield Apartments in Princeton celebrated her 90th birthday Aug. 3 with her family at the home of Kirby and Judy Marine in Coal Valley.

She was born in Manlius Aug. 3, 1919, the youngest of six children of Nels Peter and Marianne Christensen. She graduated from Manlius High School in 1937 and received her teaching certificate from Northern Illinois University in 1939 after two years of study. While teaching and raising her family, she earned her bachelor’s degree in education, also from NIU. Her teaching career was in the primary grades mostly in Walnut and Ohio.

Marianne has four children, Konrad Marine of Minneapolis, Minn., Kirby Marine of the Quad Cities, Laurel Smith of northern Virginia and Paul Ackerman of Delaware. She has 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is a member of Evangelical Covenant Church.
