Veronica Peterson

PERU — Veronica “Vernie” A. Peterson, 86, of Peru died at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at her home after a brief illness.

Born April 12, 1923, in Ottawa to Adam and Helen (Wylepski) Rachwalski, she married Roger Peterson Feb. 14, 1947, at St. Columba Rectory in Ottawa. He survives.

She worked as a cook for Peru Public Schools for 20 years.

She was a member of LaSalle VFW of Ladies Auxiliary 4668, Peru Eagles Lodge 2688, Oglesby Elks Lodge and St. Joseph Church in Peru.

Also surviving are three daughters, Sandy Holloway, Barbara (Scott) Harl and Jo Ann (Dennis) Main, all of Peru; two brothers; one sister; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Peru, with the Rev. Harold Datzman, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be in the Peru City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru.

Memorials may be directed to Illinois Valley Hospice or the family.
