PRINCETON — The Bureau County Board conducted the following business at its Sept. 8 meeting in the Bureau County Courthouse:

• Approved a conditional use permit to the Bureau Fire Protection District to build a fire station in Leepertown Township.

• Reappointed Russel Merdian as commissioner to the Fairfield Drainage and Levee District.

• Reappointed Robert Russell of Princeton, James Smith of Princeton, and Stanley Gingrich of Sheffield to the Bureau County Metropolitan Board.

• Approved, by a voice vote, a motion to rezone property in Van Orin, owned by Howard Zimmerlein, from B-3 to agriculture to install a grain dryer. Board member Rick Wilkin voted against the motion, saying some neighbors opposed the rezoning because of the dust and noise from a grain dryer.

• Approved the merger of the Putnam County LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) with the Bureau County LEPC.

• Heard from Bureau/Putnam County Health Department Director Diana Rawlings on the upcoming flu season. All the regular seasonal flu vaccines have not yet been received. Flu clinics will probably begin in October. Concerning the H1N1 flu, Rawlings said vaccine is still being tested. The H1N1 vaccine will probably not be received until November.

• Approved hiring Willettt Hofmann & Associates to prepare floor plans for the Bureau County Courthouse, at a cost not to exceed $950. The plans will be provided in digital and paper forms. The plans will be used, in part, for emergency evacuation plans for each floor of the courthouse, Buildings and Grounds Committee Chairman Kristi Warren said.

• Approved animal control contracts with the villages of Ohio and Cherry.

• Approved increased law library fees as presented.
