SPRING VALLEY — The host Red Devils played tough, but running back Daniel Weiman and his Quincy Notre Dame teammates proved to be too much to handle as the visiting Raiders shut out Hall 24-0 Friday night at Richard Nesti Stadium. “The guys definitely played hard against a great opponent,” said Hall coach Jason Bland, who saw his Red Devils fall to 1-2 on the season. “By no means did we play a perfect game, but we played hard, against a team like that you have to make a couple plays here and there, and we didn’t get them.” Weiman rushed for 270 yards on 17 carries and punched in touchdown runs of 52, 3, and 98 yards to help lead the Raiders on to victory. “That kid’s fast,” said Bland of the Quincy speedster, “he’s definitely fast.” Weiman was the focus of Quincy’s rushing attack which netted 340 yards on 30 carries. All totaled the Raiders netted 453 total yards of offense with Barnes finishing 8-17 for 113 yards and three picks. One of the Red Devils’ best chances to take some momentum away from the Raiders came in the third quarter trailing 17-0, after quarterback Michael Swingel hooked up with reciever Bryce Quinn for a 53-yard completion. A Quincy horse-collar foul tacked on after the play put the Red Devils at first and ten at the Raider 17, with around six minutes to play. A pair of incomplete passes and a 10-yard penalty call against Hall for helping advance a runner pushed the Red Devils back into a third and 20 at their 27. Swingel tried to repeat his success in the air, but his pass was picked off by Quincy’s Brandon Ley at the two-yard line. Weiman busted off a huge 98 yard touchdown run on the Raiders first offensive play after the pick, to put things securely out of reach for the Red Devils, 24-0. Quincy stifled Hall’s offense most of the contest, limiting the Red Devils to 246 yards of total offense, 157 of which came on 45 running plays. Swingel finished 4-11 with 89 total yards and two interceptions. One bright spot for Hall on the evening was the play of their pass defense, which capitalized on three miscues from Quincy quarterback Kramer Barnes to register three interceptions. Swingel snagged two of Barne’s errant throws, and Ricky Gaeta nabbed the third. Notes: Junior lineman Frank Alfano left the contest with a knee injury that Bland said could be serious... Quincy captured the sophomore contest 27-12...Next up for the Red Devils will be their first NCIC Lincoln conference matchup of the season, as they travel to Kewanee to face the Boilermakers. |
