PRINCETON — Another 47 employees are losing their jobs at LCN Closers in Princeton.
On Tuesday, the LCN leadership team announced the intent to eliminate the third shift at the plant and to reduce the hourly workforce by 47 full-time employees.
The leadership team met Tuesday with employees to inform them of the layoffs. The layoffs are expected to be completed by the end of next week.
Tuesday’s announcement follows an announcement in July that 44 full-time employees would lose their jobs in August. Once the October layoffs are complete, LCN will employ 220 full-time hourly employees.
On Tuesday afternoon, LCN general manager Tom Herberg said there are no further layoffs planned at this time, but the leadership team will continue to review the company’s business plan and volume to ensure the success of the Princeton plant.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by LCN leadership team, Tuesday’s layoffs were the result of a struggling global economy.
“LCN is a very strong business but is not immune from the effects of the global economy,” Herberg said. “While this decision is regrettable, it is necessary to ensure we have a cost structure that solidifies our continued success.
“The leadership recognizes this is difficult for our employees, but we want to emphasize that this decision is not a reflection on the quality of our workforce,” Herberg continued. “We care deeply for our employees and community and will be offering all affected employees severance, outplacement and subsidized medical benefits.”
Looking to the future, Herberg said the Princeton plant, located at 121 W. Railroad Ave., continues to be an integral part of the Ingersoll Rand company, and there are no plans to close the Princeton plant.
Tim Eckersley, president of Commercial Americas, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies Sector, also issued a statement Tuesday regarding the Princeton plant.
“The LCN brand is very strong and continues to be a vital part of the Ingersoll Rand portfolio of products,” Eckersley said.
LCN Closers, which services both exterior, interior and specialty door closer needs, has been in Princeton since 1949.
