Lady Bruins beat Henry in T-C opener

St. Bede opened the Tri-County Conference volleyball tournament with a 25-11, 25-20 win over Henry at Streator Woodland Tuesday.
Kayla MacDavitt led the Lady Bruins attack at the net with nine kills and five blocks. Molly Scott led her team with six digs and 11 points. Bethany Stavrakas added six kills, six points, three aces and five digs and Taylor Miller had 12 assists and five points
Princeton 2, IVC 1: The Tigresses got revenge on the Grey Ghosts and handed them their first NCIC loss at the same time Tuesday. IVC (16-2, 6-1) won the first set 25-19, but the Tigresses (22-3-1, 5-2) rallied for 25-20, 25-15 victories.
Lacey Jensen came up big with 10 kills and Sarah Maynard added nine and Jolynn Kane had seven. Sylvie Tracy led the Tigresses (22-3-1, 5-2) with 10 digs and 12 points. Molly Stephens had four kills and 25 assists and Jacquie Kane added four kills and seven blocks.
LaMoille/Ohio 2, Leland/Earlville 1: The Lady Lions captured their first victory in Little Ten Conference play, defeating their guests 25-22, 22-25, 25-22 Tuesday in LaMoille.
Top contributors for the Lady Lions (4-16, 1-4) were Erika Walzer (12 kills, 3 aces), Laura Stouffer (7 points, 8 digs), Courtney Loomis (5 kills), Mary Bartoli (10 points, 11 digs), Haley Stouffer (5 kills, 8 digs), Megan Elam (20 assists, 8 digs), Raeann Coughlin (26 digs) and Taylor Gott (8 points, 5 aces, 13 digs).
L/O also won the F/S match 25-13, 25-21. McKenzie Billhorn had seven kills and Emily Kirby had eight points and four aces.
Rock Falls 2, Hall 0: The Lady Rockets handled the Lady Devils with ease in NCIC Lincoln play Tuesday 25-16, 25-17. Mickey Victor led the Lady Devils with six kills, Brigitte Klein had a team-high four blocks and Kelle Nett led her team with eight points and three aces. Klein, Raineri and Nett each tallied two kills.
Hall coach Dani Zellmer said the Lady Rockets were a much improved team than the first time they played while her team was off.
“They played tremendous defense; they were quick and seemed to be everywhere, and we weren’t on our toes. We just didn’t wake up tonight,” she said.
At Mendota: Princeton placed second in Saturday’s Mendota Freshmen Tournament, falling to Mendota 25-14, 21-25, 25-22 in the championship round. The Tigresses defeated Dixon 25-18, 21-13, Seneca 25-5, 26-24 and Sandwich 25-8, 27-25 in pool play and Fieldcrest 25-23, 25-6 in the semifinals.
Soccer
Watseka 5, DePue 2: The host Warriors took a 3-1 lead on DePue in Tuesday’s 1A quarterfinal contest in Watseka. D. John Mejia scored both goals for the Little Giants, including a PK in the first half and an unassisted goal in the second half.
DePue finishes the season at 1-13-1.
At Princeton: Princeton placed third in its own F/S Tournament held Saturday at Tiskilwa and Zearing Park, falling to Geneseo 3-0. The Tigers beat Dixon 3-1 on goals by Jacob Fisher and Blake Quiram (2) and three assists by Gabe Kelly. PHS played Streator to a 3-3 tie on goals by Reece Bird (2) and Lance Jensen and two assists by Fisher.
Special Olympics Bowling
At Peru: The Princeton Tigers competed in the Special Olympics Area 16 District Bowling Tournament at the Super Bowl in Peru. Three Tigers — Trent Maupin, Joe Johnson and Bryanna Lehn — won gold medals and will advance to sectional competition in Rockford on Nov. 7.
Other PHS bowlers included Jerry Young, fifth place; Nick Johnson and Robbie Rainford fourth place; and Alex Dabler, Justin Smith, Kruti Patel and Kyla Kissick, Silver medal.
Freshmen football
St. Bede 24, Bureau Valley 8: St. Bede finished the freshman schedule with a win on the road Tuesday. The Bruins got on the board with touchdown runs by Alex Schwab (10) and Steven Gualandri (7) and a fumble recovery in the end zone by Brandon Piotrowski.
The Bruins finish their season at 5-2, both losses coming to Mendota.
