Annual Gathering of Midwest Authors

BISHOP HILL — Suspense has been building in anticipation for this year’s third annual Gathering of Midwest Authors in Bishop Hill.

The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 24-25. As in the last two years, writers from across Illinois will gather at the small, historical village on the prairie. This year, 13 of the top authors in the state are scheduled to appear at the VagnHall Galleri above the Prairie Arts Center.

This year’s featured author is best-selling writer J.A. Konrath, the mind behind the Jack Daniels mystery series set in the Chicago P.D. At 2 p.m. Saturday, Konrath will lead a panel of writers including Monica Morris of Henry and Tom Steele of Geneseo in a seminar about character development in a fiction novel.

Just prior to Konrath and his crew, Marc Wilson, author of Hero Street USA, will discuss writing creative non-fiction, and what it takes in this day to capture people’s attention in a historical book.

Last year’s featured author, Sylvia Shults, mistress of the macabre, of Pekin, will debut her newest horror novel, Borrowed Flesh.

Sunday’s events will kick off Larry Santoro, director, screenwriter and author of North of Nowhere.  Santoro has twice been nominated for the prestigious Stoker Award for writers of horror.

With a nod to Halloween, David Youngquist, author of Ghosts of Interstate 80 and Ghost of the Illinois Canal System, and Kelly Meagher, part of the Will County Ghost Hunters, will conduct a seminar at 2 p.m. on paranormal investigations.

For the third year, George Olson will bring the beauty of the prairie to life with his book, The Elemental Prairie.

For a complete list of authors who will be there, check the list and times below. As always, admission is free. Fans, aspiring author, or anyone interested in the writing world, are encouraged to come to Bishop Hill. Authors will be there to talk, sell and sign their work from noon to 5 p.m. each day.

For more information go to: www.bishophill.com or call David Youngquist at (815) 646-4748.
