PRINCETON — The first meeting of the Bureau County Cloverbuds group will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bureau County Farm Bureau on Route 34/Elm Place in Princeton.

Cloverbuds is a special youth program for 5 to 7 year olds and is available through the University of Illinois Extension — Bureau County office. The group will meet monthly from October through April, and new members are welcome at any time during the year.

The theme for the October meeting is “Spiders are Special.” Participants will learn how spiders are similar to (and different from) insects, make a spider craft, read a story about spiders, play games, enjoy a snack and more. Participants may also have an opportunity to meet Charlotte, a real live spider. Please note a parent/guardian or older friend (ages 16+) is required to attend the meeting with the child. Families and siblings are welcome.

The 4-H Cloverbud Program is activity-based and involves participation in cooperative, non-competitive, hands-on activities. Youth gain immediate results and positive feedback while having fun! The program offers the following benefits:

• Helps children begin to develop life skills in early elementary years.

• Offers the structured opportunities some parents are seeking for their children.

• Provides age appropriate materials for groups such as home-schooled youth, day care facilities, school-aged childcare programs, and K-2 classrooms.

• Helps children develop positive attitudes about learning.

• Helps children gain knowledge in science, literature and art.

A county-wide Cloverbud group exists for youth throughout the county; some 4-H Community Clubs also accept Cloverbud members. Interested individuals and communities may inquire to start their own Cloverbud Group. A full meeting schedule can be obtained by calling the Extension office at (815) 875-2878, or on the Web site at http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/bureau/4hyouth.html.
