‘Adopt a Basket’ sponsors needed

Comments (...)

SPRING VALLEY — The Hall Township Food Pantry is once again asking communities and organizations to become an “Adopt a Basket” sponsor.

Holiday baskets are an additional expense for the Hall Township Food Pantry, and additional funds are needed to meet this expense.

“It has been a tough year,” said Candyce Marland Wolsfeld, director of Project Success of Eastern Bureau County. “Clientele has gone up, and so many families are facing higher heat bills, gasoline prices and food cost. Locally we want to continue to do the extras for our clients, so this year especially, it is important for people to ‘Adopt a Basket.’”

Items that will be included in each basket are turkeys, chicken and/or hams, pumpkin pie, yams, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, potatoes and more. The approximate cost to compile a basket is $30. Hall Township Food Pantry is the only local food pantry that services the eastern Bureau County communities of  Bureau, Cherry, Dalzell, DePue, Hollowayville, Ladd, Seatonville, Arlington and Spring Valley. Hall Township Food Pantry expects to serve upwards of 500 for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Each basket will be prepackaged for the recipients and labeled with the donors’ name. Filled baskets will also be accepted, and the donors’ name will be placed on the box. Anyone wishing to sponsor a basket may send a check to P.O. Box 208, Spring Valley, IL 61362. Checks should be made payable to Project Success of Eastern Bureau County or Hall Township Food Pantry. Food donations may be left at 500 N. Terry, Spring Valley, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., or at Spring Valley City Bank in Spring Valley.
