SHEFFIELD — William Rosenow of Sheffield has announced he will run for the Republican Party’s nomination for the position of Bureau County Sheriff.

Rosenow’s name will be on the Feb. 2, 2010, primary ballot.

Rosenow is the current mayor of Sheffield, having served in that position for 14 years.

After graduating from Western High School, he served in the Air Force as an Air police officer for four years. He attended Illinois Valley Community College, Sauk Valley College and obtained his associate's degree from Black Hawk East College. He obtained his real estate license from Boehe Reallity in Rock Island.

Rosenow is retired after 32 years with the Illinois State Police, having worked in the Rock lsland and LaSalle districts. He patrolled the midnight shift for more than 20 years, becoming the district range officer and fleet supervisor. Upon his retirement with the rank of sergeant, Rosenow was appointed to the position of Bureau County Sheriff, before running for election and being defeated by incumbent sheriff John Thompson.

Rosenow has been active in Sheffield service clubs, including the rescue unit and the Lions Club. He was on the Western School Board of Education for 14 years and also served on the Bureau Valley Foundation. He is a past president of the Tri-County Municipal League and has been a member of the American Legion Post 415 for 40 years.

Rosenow said his love for law enforcement and his desire to help people makes him the candidate who will be conservative and accountable in these trying economic times.

“We all must be fruitful with the taxpayers dollars. We must maintain what we have and expand if the moneys are available and the people support the ideas,” Rosenow said. “There are important mandated items coming up in the sheriff department and then the dream items that have to be scrutinized.”

As Sheffield mayor, Rosenow said he works with city police officers and has remained in law enforcement.

Rosenow is married to the former Mary Jo Hewitt and they have three grown daughters, Jennifer in Bloomington, Lisa in Florida and Jill in California.

Sheffield resident Joe Bertetto has also announced his candidacy for the Republican Party's nomination for the office of Bureau County Sheriff. Incumbent Sheriff John Thompson, a Democrat, is seeking re-election.
