Gertrude Witalka

PERU — Gertrude “Ann” Witalka, 78, of Peru died at 12:54 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.
Born June 17, 1931, in Princeton to Lowell and Vivian (McDonald) Devenney, she married Richard W. Witalka Sept. 14, 1957, at St. Louis Church in Princeton. He died Dec. 6, 2008.
She was a graduate of Princeton High School and St. Francis Nursing School in Peoria, continuing her nursing education at Northern Illinois University, Bradley and Illinois Valley Community College. She became the head surgical nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria and later retired as school nurse at LaSalle-Peru High School after 20 years.
She was a member of St. Valentine Church.
Surviving are two sons, Dan (Flo) Witalka and John Witalka, both of Peru; one daughter, Teri (Tom) Engel of Henderson, Nev.; one sister, Ginger (Neil) Wise of Manlius; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death her parents and one sister.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ptak Funeral Home, Peru, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Valentine Church with Father William Gardner officiating. Burial will be at St. Hyacinth Cemetery in LaSalle.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a rosary service at 4:30 p.m.
