Princeton DAR hears Lincoln programsPRINCETON — The Princeton-Illinois Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met Sept. 4 with Kent Parrish presenting a program of Abraham Lincoln quiz questions and the reading of his poem “To Abraham Lincoln, The Legend Within.” He also presented the Chapter with a White House birthday cake in commemoration of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday. Regent Evalynn Blanco led the Ritual. Jan Edgerley led in the preamble to the U.S. Constitution in commemoration of the 222nd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. Members rang bells in anticipation of Sept. 17. Conservation Chairman Diana Williamson reported on the loss of wetlands which are responsible for recharging the waters. Blanco reported members have knitted a total of 63 items for DAR Project Patriot. The 118th NSDAR Continental Congress was attended by the Regent and her report and scrapbook was shared. Congress awards received were: Chapter Achievement Award, Level 1; DAR Project Patriot Support Award; Evalynn Blanco for the re-dedication of the 1915 Lincoln Marker, North Central Division and Evalynn Blanco for Outstanding Service - DAR Genealogy Preservation. Hostesses for the day were Sharon Bittner, chairman, and Mar Davidson, Diana Williamson and Sharon Wilson. The Chapter met Oct. 2 with the program “Abraham Lincoln Comes Home,” presented by members. Robert Burleigh’s book, by the same name, was read by Beverly Larson. Through the eyes of a child, the book told of A. Lincoln’s funeral train journey from Washington, D.C. to Springfield, Ill. Members then participated with family and local remembrances of that time period. Regent Evalynn Blanco led the Ritual. DAR Days in Galesburg was attended by Carol Arteberry, Sharon Bittner, Blanco, Larson, Patricia Polson and Bonnie Schutt. The District II meeting Sept. 26 was held in LaSalle at the Illinois Veterans Home. DAR members participated in a Bingo party with the residents. Gifts were donated by the Chapter and District to the Home. The Chapter is accepting donations for the Honor Flight Project. Hostesses for the day were Joanne Swan, chairman, Victoria Kapp, M.
