BRADFORD — The fourth annual Dorothy Lord Memorial Reading Award, “Learning to Read and Loving It” was presented to four deserving students at the first quarter awards assembly held Oct. 29 at Bradford Elementary School. Farrell Lord of Metamora, Dorothy Lord’s son, was on hand to present the prizes and congratulate the winners. Each student received a $100 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble to purchase books and $50. The first- and second-grade winner was Andrew Wall. The third- and fourth-grade winner was Jon Duncan. The fifth- and sixth-grade winner was Kaylah Weir. These awards were for the most improved reader in their respective grades. Alex Dries was the seventh- and eighth-grade winner for the best reader, based on the 2008-09 school year. In addition, their names have been engraved on the memorial plaque which hangs in the front hallway. The family presented each reading teacher with $50 to purchase reading materials for their classroom. Dorothy Lord’s family established the memorial after her death in 2005, at age 95, to honor her and her love for reading. Comments
