The Bureau Valley FFA placed third at the Section 3 FFA Soils Judging contest held in Geneseo Oct. 7.

The contest challenged FFA members to judge four soil pits for ease of water movement, soil structure and composition, as well as determining proper soil tillage practices. Ryan Haney was the top individual for Bureau Valley, which placed third overall. Haney advanced to the Illinois State Soils judging contest which was held Oct. 13 and hosted by Black Hawk East in Kewanee. The team placed 15th at the state contest. The soils judging team included Cody Williams, (from left), Ryan Ehnle, Kody Thomas, Dylan Thompson, Jacob Perino, Ethan Wright, Brittany McCune, Megan Muchesse, Bryce Walters, Susan Brummel, Josh Knobloch, Ryan Haney, Sam Lowers and Charles Wood.
