PRINCETON — A new feature of Princeton’s annual Christmas Open House on Saturday will be a German Kristkindl Markt from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Open Prairie United Church of Christ, 25 E. Marion St. (behind the Apollo Theater). The Kristkindl Markt (German Christmas Market) will offer handmade gifts, hand painted Christmas ornaments, an international cookie bazaar, a German lunch, and an “Almost New” gift shop. There will be special activities for children as well as live music. Terry Bredenberg from the Peoria Area Accordion Association and the Kaiserhof Restaurant will be playing traditional German music on the accordion from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Entertainment will also include carols played throughout the day by Open Prairie’s own brass quartet. The German Club from Princeton High School will be selling traditional German advent calendars. Other kiosks will offer handmade ceramics, Lia Sophia jewelry, Fair Trade coffees and chocolates, and “green” shopping bags. Father Christmas will be on hand to welcome market-goers and entertain the children. Children’s activities will take place in the “Gingerbread House” inside the church as well as outside under a canopy west of the building. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a German Brathaus lunch will be featured. Coffee and hot mulled cider along with German stollen and lebkuchen will be available all day for hungry Main Street and Christmas Market shoppers.
