It was the first meeting between the co-op programs with A/W moving up from 1A and A/L dropping down from 3A. A group of Titans parents had the team's bus route along I-80 and Rte. 26 decorated with spirit banners and signs. The Titans (10-1) advance into next week's 2A quarterfinals against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at Wethersfield. Gibson City was a 60-19 winner over Aledo Mercer County, who in Week 2 of the regular season, handed A/W its lone defeat of the season. In other playoff action Saturday, Morrison beat Eastland-Pearl City 42-0, Sterling Newman blanked Oregon 9-0 in 3A, Mendota stunned Morris 35-0 without running back Kurtis Knapp and Geneseo beat Kankakee Bishop McNamara 26-24 in 4A and Sterling fell to Washington 28-21 in 5A. Mendota (9-2) will host Geneseo in 4A quarterfinal play next Saturday. Comments
