Community NotesWine tasting PRINCETON — Larry and Judy Wilson invite area residents to a wine tasting Nov. 21 during the Christmas Open House event in Princeton. IVSO performance LASALLE — Under the direction of music director and conductor Lucia Matos, the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra will present “The Nutcracker”, a fan favorite at 4 p.m. Dec. 12 and 3 p.m. Dec. 13 in the LaSalle-Peru High School auditorium. Dancers from Dance Center, Gray’s School of Dance and Ottawa Dance Academy, and singers from the Streator Middle School choir will join the IVSO for these performances. Raffle planned PRINCETON — The Princeton Chamber of Commerce is holding a winter getaway raffle. Tickets are $10 each and are available at the Chamber office at 435 S. Main St. First prize is two coach class Air Tran Airways tickets and $200 spending money. Second prize is a $50 Princeton Chamber gift certificate and third prize is a $25 Princeton Chamber gift certificate. The drawing will be Dec. 17 at the Chamber Business After Hours event hosted by Key Builders Construction Co. You do not need to be present to win. Blood drive WALNUT — Walnut Boy Scout Troop 53 will sponsor a blood drive with the American Red Cross from 1 to 6 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Masonic Lodge, 133 Main St., Walnut. Their goal is 100 units to celebrate 100 years of scouting. Appointments can be made by calling (815) 535-8196. Walk-ins are welcome. Meeting set DEPUE — The DePue 150th Celebration Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Water Works Building. Discussions will be on a logo, mission statement and a steering committee/sub committees. Anyone wishing to help in any way is encouraged to attend the meeting. Garage sale PRINCETON — A huge winter garage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bureau County Fairgrounds in Princeton. There is no admission fee for the sale, but a collection of non-perishable foods will be taken at the door to help fill the shelves of the local food pantry for Thanksgiving. Book sale PRINCETON — The Friends of Strays Animal Shelter will host a book sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at its new building at 2845 N. Main St. behind the Road Ranger Truck Stop. The sale will include thousands of books of all genres. All proceeds directly support the shelter’s humane work on behalf of abandoned, neglected and abused pets. Food pantry drive PRINCETON — Local area Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts will be going door-to-door in Princeton and Tiskilwa on a drive for the local food pantry starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Food items may also be dropped off between 9 and 11 a.m. in the parking lot east of the Princeton Library or the gas station in Tiskilwa. Last year the Scouts collected more than 2,200 pounds for local families. Jaycees meeting PRINCETON — The Princeton Jaycees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lovejoy Room of the Prouty Building at 435 S. Main St., Princeton. Individuals interested in learn about the Princeton Jaycees and upcoming events are encouraged to attend the meeting.
