Holland & Sons Inc., a full-service John Deere dealership headquartered in Mendota, recently purchased Murphy & Gustafson Inc. dealership in Freeport.

Murphy & Gustafson Inc. has served northwest Illinois and the surrounding area since 1946. Andrew Gustafson will continue as the location manager of the Freeport John Deere dealership. The sale became effective Nov. 2.

Holland & Sons president Todd Holland said the acquisition of the Freeport location will offer dealership customers and employees more support resources, including corporate support personnel, emergency parts and larger product availability from all five Holland & Sons locations.

“We are excited about the opportunities to grow and become a partner in the Freeport community,” Holland said.

In 1985, Holland & Sons Inc. was established in Mendota by owners Gary, Ty, Todd and Troy Holland. The Princeton location was added in 1988. In 1994, the Dixon location was purchased, and in 2007 a merger took place with Goodrich Equipment, located in Geneseo. Dale and Roger Goodrich joined as owners with the Hollands at that time.

Holland & Sons’ five locations employ more than 115 full-time and part-time employees and serve agricultural and turf customers in northern Illinois. A six-time winner of John Deere’s prestigious Manager’s Club award, Holland’s is dedicated to earning customer loyalty by providing and supporting a full line of John Deere products. The staff of Holland & Sons is committed to the dealership’s core values of quality, customer satisfaction, and integrity in both products and service.
