Open house

PRINCETON — In honor of National Hospice Month, Bureau Valley Volunteer Hospice will hold an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday in the ACF Building Lobby at Perry Memorial Hospital. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded.

Genealogy meeting

OTTAWA — The LaSalle County Genealogy Guild will feature its ethnic potluck dinner at noon Nov. 21 at the Guild Library, 115 W. Glover St., Ottawa. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass. Chicken and drink will be furnished.

Christmas in the Village

LADD — The Ladd Community Improvement Association will sponsor Christmas in the Village from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 5. This year’s theme is angels. The Ladd Library will host storyteller Helen Thomas and hold a book and angel sale. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the American Legion. The event will feature free wagon rides, trolley rides, a cookie frost, letters to Santa, hot dogs, chips and soda and door prizes. Children will be able to decorate ornaments and help prepare reindeer food. There will be bake and cookie sales, nuts, popcorn, chocolate covered bacon and kettle corn. Entertainment will include D.J. Croissant at the fire station, a strolling Praise and Shine and a clown magic show.

Book club meeting

PRINCETON — The Princeton Public Library Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. Dec. 10 in the community meeting room at the library. The group will discuss “The Street of a Thousand Blossoms” by Gail Tsukiyama. The staff at the library will be glad to assist anyone in borrowing this book. Anyone is invited to join the group, sponsored by Friends of the Princeton Public Library, in discussing this book.

Guest speaker

PRINCETON — Ladd Police Chief Bill Gaefcki, a lieutenant in the Illinois National Guard, will speak about his experiences in Afghanistan at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Princeton Public Library. Everyone is welcome to come and hear him talk about the soldier’s life and missions he was involved with while deployed to Afghanistan.
