KEWANEE — Anna Mae Verstraete, 94, of Kewanee died at 3:14 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home.

Born June 15, 1915, in Kewanee Township to Walter A. and Clara V. (Hadsall) Schultz, she married John Verstraete Dec. 5, 1939, in Kewanee. He died Dec. 23, 1989.

She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1933 and then from Brown’s Business College. She had worked as a legal secretary for various attorneys in Kewanee.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Church UCC and a charter member of the Burns Grange. She was a member of D.A.R., the Flemish American Club, Henry County Senior Citizens and AARP.

Surviving are one son, Mark J. (Lorraine) Verstraete of Bradford; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Alvin Schultz; and one sister, Evelyn Engles.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Evangelical Church, Kewanee, with Pastors David Shoobridge and Bob Curry officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to her church or to Abilities Plus.

The Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
