PAPILLION, Neb. — Kathryn Jean Vance died peacefully in her home at Hillcrest Cottages in Papillion, Neb., on Nov. 12, 2009.

Kathryn was born in 1915 at Newton, Iowa, the first of four daughters of Lynn and Laura Russell. She was raised in Newton where she met and married Clyde “Tad” Vance in 1936. Kathryn and Tad moved to Princeton, Ill., where they raised their family. Kathryn was active in the Princeton P.E.O. Chapter and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She volunteered in the community, especially with Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Bureau County Historical Society.

Kathryn and Tad loved to spend time with family. She and Tad also enjoyed entertaining their many friends in Princeton. Traveling the world, hunting ducks and playing golf were among Kathryn and Tad’s many shared pleasures. Kathryn also liked to play bridge, read and knit. Kathryn moved to Nebraska in 2006, 10 years after Tad’s death.

Kathryn is survived by son Craig Vance and his wife, Kathleen, of Bellevue, Neb., and daughter Jill Vance and her friend, Martin Krietz, of St. Louis, Mo.; sister Judy Salisbury of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

The family plans a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church of Princeton in the Spring of 2010. Notification to follow.

Memorials may be sent to the Bureau County Historical Society, 109 Park Avenue, Princeton, IL 61356.
