Morrow, Knobloch named Elks Teens of the Month

PRINCETON — Amanda Morrow of Princeton High School and Joshua Knobloch of Bureau Valley High School have been named the November Elks Teens of the Month.

Morrow and Knobloch were honored Nov. 13 at a luncheon at the Princeton Elks Lodge. They were chosen for the honor based on character, leadership, service, citizenship, community service and scholarship.

In her submitted application, Amanda Morrow stated she is ranked third in her class of 134 students. She has a grade point average of 3.98, on a 4.0 scale, and scored 31 on her ACT.

Morrow is a member of the National Honor Society, president of the Student Council and was named this year’s recipient of the DAR Good Citizenship Award. She has also received the Keith Schultz Memorial Award, the IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award and has been a school ambassador for the National Society of High School Scholars for the past three years.

Morrow is a member of the Thespian Board, choir vice president, and head of the publicity department for the PHS fall play.

She has participated in high school tennis, marching band, pep band and concert band for four years each. She’s been a member of mixed chorus, swing choir and school musicals for the past three years, as well as the German Club, Drama Club, and Student Council.

For community service, Morrow has volunteered at Friends of Strays, with Big Brother/Big Sister, the Giving Tree program, and in the Princeton Community Band.

Her plans are to attend college and to hopefully study abroad, at some point. She plans to major in history and to attend law school after college.

Morrow is the daughter of Anthony Morrow and Stephanie VanOrdstrand of Princeton.

In his Elks Teen application, Knobloch stated he is ranked second in his class of 103 students at Bureau Valley High School. He has a grade point average of 3.97 and scored 30 on his ACT.

Knobloch is a member of the National Honor Society and is the current president of the NHS. He has received several awards, including the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, the J. William Ellis Mathematics Award, G. Russel Huly Science Award, and American Legion Citizenship Medal. He is also a scholarship letter winner from the Society of Academic Achievement.

Knobloch has participated in basketball and summer league basketball for four years, as well as band, marching band, jazz band, pep band and concert band. He is also a four-year member of the FFA and the Scholastic Bowl. He is a member of the Advanced Science Club and History Club.

For community service, Knobloch volunteers at the Bradford Rescue Squad Labor Day and Hog Roast fundraisers. He also helps with the school recycling program and has been a chemistry, physics and writing lab tutor. He also volunteers with collecting food for the food pantry and with a roadside clean-up crew.

After high school, Knobloch plans are to attend college to major in physics.

He is the son of Daryl and Deborah Knobloch of rural Bradford.

Other county teens honored at the Nov. 13 Elks luncheon were Austin Schwingle of LaMoille High School; Samantha Albrecht of Ohio High School; Alex Cusick and Jillian Stariha, both of St. Bede Academy; Lauren Hasbrook of Bureau Valley High School; Ryan Degutis, Princeton High School; Cortland Klinefelter of DePue High School; and Mary Haywood and Austin Urbanski, both of Hall High School.

The Princeton High School Tigers beat the Rock Falls Rockets Wednesday 66-55 during sectional play at Byron. The Tigers will now play the undefeated Winnebago Indians at 7:30 p.m. Friday for the sectional championship.
