BUDA — A two-vehicle accident resulted in a fatality at the intersection of Routes 6/34 and Route 40 Tuesday morning.

Russell E. Patterson, 44, of Monmouth was the driver of a grain truck traveling southbound on Route 40 when it struck a minivan in the four-way stop intersection at about 11:47 a.m.

Coroner Janice Wamhoff pronounced LuAnn Jensen, 55, the driver of the 2000 Chevrolet Ventura, dead at the scene at 12:30 p.m. Both drivers were transported to Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, where Patterson was treated and released.

Bureau County Sheriff John Thompson said it appeared Patterson, who was driving a T-800 2003 Kenworth, failed to stop at the intersection, striking Jensen’s car on the driver’s side. Patterson was charged with failure to stop at a stopped intersection.

Thompson declined to release any additional details at the time. The accident remains under investigation, but Thompson said additional charges are not pending against Patterson. A final report will be issued when accident reconstructionist Gary Becket completes his investigation.

In addition to the sheriff’s department, also responding to the accident scene were the Illinois State Police, Walnut Police Department, Illinois Department of Transportation, Princeton Fire Department, Sheffield Fire and Rescue, and Buda Fire and Rescue.
