Santa Claus is coming to Manlius

By Kim Parker - news@bcrnews.com

MANLIUS — On Dec. 12, Santa Claus is going to make an early appearance to all the good boys and girls in the Manlius area.

“Christmas is for our children, and all children are invited. This is an afternoon where everyone can be a child again, even if it is only for a few hours,” Trisha Johnson said.

Coming off of a successful Manlius Days, the committee of three, Jan Williams, Trisha Johnson and Dawn Reglin, also village board members, decided to take on Santa and the holidays.

After tracking down Santa’s phone number, the women made the call and invited Santa to visit for the day. According to Johnson, “He was thrilled at visiting our village and can’t wait to see all the children.”

Boughs of holly, a Christmas tree and even mistletoe will be present, along with Christmas lights and oodles of decorations, guaranteed to make everyone’s holiday spirit rise up a notch or two.

From 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the village hall, children and their families will be treated to a holiday lunch with Santa, complete with hotdogs, chips, soda, as well as having their photo taken with jolly ole St. Nick.

Games, and if the weather cooperates, a snowman building contest, will round out an afternoon of “holly jolly” with Santa Claus, who will complete the day by handing out “treats,” along with a rousing reading of one of his all-time favorite Christmas stories.

Parents can also get into the Christmas spirit by donating canned goods and non-perishable items to Santa, who will deliver them to the community food bank in Sheffield.

“Manlius has never put together an event like this, and the hope is that we can invite Santa back again next year,” said Williams.

Lunch with Santa will begin at noon. Photos will begin after lunch and run until 2:30 p.m.

Donations for the event are always welcome. Those who have questions or need more information can call (815) 445-2415.
