Gerald Barkley

WYANET — Gerald “Jerry” L. Barkley, 73, of Wyanet died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.


Born Dec. 25, 1935, in Wyanet to Calvin and Pearl (Johnson) Barkley, he married Sandy J. Lamkin Oct. 12, 1963, in Wyanet. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Diane Barkley of Geneseo; one son, David (Lori) Barkley of Princeton; one sister, Thershea Warren of Cuba, Ill.; three brothers, Arnold “Jim” (Mary Kay) Barkley of Peoria, John Calvin (Carolyn) Barkley of Wyanet and Bernard “Bunk” Barkley of Washington, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Kenneth and Kyle Barkley of Princeton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Rhea; and one sister, Judy Young.

He was a 1954 graduate of Wyanet High School. He was an inspector at LTV Steel in Hennepin for 30 years. He served as a corporal with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a member of Wyanet VFW Post 6634. He was a patron visitor at Socks Bar in Wyanet.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Marvin Claassen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Wyanet, with military rites conducted by Wyanet VFW Post  6634.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
