SPRINGFIELD — Edward J. “Jack” Frenz, 89, of Springfield died at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Springfield to Emil and Anna (Stephens) Frenz, he married Mary Hughes May 28, 1986. She survives.
He was a graduate of Lanphier High School. He worked at John W. Hobbs, retiring as general manager of the Spring Valley plant. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a resident of Springfield most of his life.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Rotary Club, both in Springfield, and was a former member of several big bands in the Springfield area, including The Originals, and was an avid piano player.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Frenz; one daughter, Sue Gambiani of Peru; three stepdaughters, Barbara Hughes of Springfield, Janet (Richard) Winkler of Divernon and Ricki (Don) Witte of Springfield; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Davis of Sherman and Carolyn (Charles) Douglas of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Emil, Billy and Robert Frenz; one infant son; and his first wife, Dorothy Frenz, in 1984.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Springfield, with Pastor Darrell Debowey officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Staab Funeral Home, Springfield. He will lie in state from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
