Princeton to offer Citizens Police Academy

PRINCETON — A Citizens Police Academy will be offered by the Princeton Police Department beginning in April. The academy is open to residents of the city of Princeton, 21 years of age or older, who are interested in learning more about how their police department operates and the policing challenges facing the city of Princeton.

The class will meet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday evening for 10 weeks, beginning April 6. The curriculum has been designed to be informative as well as beneficial, and will be presented in a manner that is enjoyable for everyone who attends.

Participants will learn different aspects of the police department, including a tour of the police station, a K-9 demonstration, criminal justice systems, community policing, crime scene techniques, a ride-along with a uniformed officer and much more.

The instructors of the academy are Princeton Police officers and other members of the criminal justice system. The goal of the academy is to nurture a growing pool of responsible,well-informed citizens with the potential to influence public opinion about police practices and services. The class size will be limited to 20 students.

Classes fill up quickly, and applications need to be turned in as soon as possible.
