Softball: St. Bede 1, Princeton 0
PERU — Abbie May no-hit Princeton on 17 strikeouts in a 1-0 victory Thursday at the academy. She said her control was the secret to her success.
“I just got into a rhythm and following my pitching sequence, just worked throughout the game. Helps hitting my spots all the time,” May said.
The Lady Bruins got the only run May would need in the bottom of the first. Addison Lee led off with a single against PHS pitcher Olivia Vergamini, and May and Hayley Short walked with one out to load the bases. Ally Borkowski brought Lee home with a sac fly to center.
Princeton threatened in the seventh inning when Vergamini reached on an error on a bloop to short right. May struck out Adrienne Snethen swinging. Vergamini stole second, but May retired Lexi Alt on a comebacker on a bunt attempt to end the game.
