ColumnistsNovember 18, 2009 Bill Jenkins spent most of his life in a gymnasium or on a football field. It was only fitting his friends paid their final respects to him there. I really enjoy it when people write or call in with stories of their sons or daughters going out with Dad or Gramps or Uncle Seymour to hunt, fish or just enjoy the outdoors. This time it was double duty because Bill and Faith Carlson have twin grandsons, and they both have harvested 8-point bucks this fall. Cody and Garrett Fues are both sophomores at Putnam County High School and enjoy the sport of archery. November 16, 2009 After Jay Cutler’s game-ending interception last Thursday, (his fifth of the evening for those keeping score at home), I scurried from the residence of one of my football friends like a rat abandoning a sinking ship. November 11, 2009 The Bureau County ties of J.A. Happ and Chad Durbin have been well discussed over the past two years as the two Philadelphia Phillies pitchers chased the World Series championship. November 9, 2009 Hal Adkins is hooked on racing. November 4, 2009 Memo to Charlie Manuel: if you get a chance to have Game 7 in the World Series Thursday, start J.A. Happ. He’s your best chance. November brings to the sportsman some extra options to get out to hunt for some additional species. Some hunters have already harvested some ducks and geese, deer (archery) and turkey (shotgun) and may now continue via archery, except during deer shotgun season Nov. 20-22 and Dec. 3-6. November 2, 2009 Growing up in Ohio around the time I did, one thing was certain — basketball was king. October 29, 2009 I can’t imagine what J.A. Happ is going through. Second year in the big leagues and second year in the World Series. October 26, 2009 It was a soggy weekend for area athletes. |
